Environmental Education Day Held at Mill Cove

MANSFIELD, PA— More than 80 high school students from across the Northern Tier attended Environmental Education Day at Mill Cove Environmental Center on Thursday, April 27.Environmental Education Day at Mill Cove.The event, sponsored by the Mansfield University Institute of Science and the Environment and Mill Cove, brought students from North Penn-Mansfield, Williamson, Liberty, Cowanesque Valley and Troy together for a day focused on the many fields in environmental education, conservation and science that students can study in college and pursue careers in.

Assistant Professor of Biology Greg Carson talks with students about fisheries.The students rotated between 13 hands-on stations about topics such as fisheries, water quality, outdoor recreation and geology, among others. The stations were run by MU faculty and emeritus faculty, students, alumni and Mill Cove volunteers.

They also heard from Ben Stone, Park Operations manager for the Hills Creek State Park Complex, about Linda Kennedy, assisstant professor of Geosciences, makes a point to students during her session on hydrology.career opportunities and John Szentesy, associate director of Financial Aid, about MU admissions and financial aid.

Environmental Education Day was organized by Lee Stocks, associate professor of Geosciences, and funded by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
