101st First Year Student Adventure Taking Shape for Fall

MANSFIELD, PA— The start of the fall semester at Mansfield University is still two months away, but organizers of the 101st First Year Student Adventure are already making plans for the students who will get a head start on their MU experience.

Incoming students, led by upperclassman, spend three days learning about leadership and the Mansfield Creed (character, scholarship, culture, and service) before ever taking a class.

Now in its fourth year, 101st participants take part in several team building exercises and bonding experiences and also complete a community service project.

Students selected for this year’s program will arrive on campus August 22 for their 101st experience before the remainder of their classmates come to campus.

Those students who have been accepted to MU must pay their admissions deposit at admissions.mansfield.edu/deposit.cfm to participate in the 101st program.

Participants in the 101st must also pay a $20 deposit, which can be sent by check to Frank Crofchick, Dean of Students, Alumni Hall 327, Mansfield University, Mansfield, PA 16933.

The program name, 101st, is based on Company B, 101st Infantry Regiment, and Pennsylvania Volunteers, who fought in the Civil War The soldiers were from Mansfield and the surrounding area and were later known as the Tioga Mountaineers.

MU’s mascot and nickname, Mountaineers, honors the same Regiment.
