MANSFIELD, PA— The Mansfield University English Education
program has received high marks from the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) for 2014.
The English Education secondary program is ranked number one in Pennsylvania and number three in the Mid-Atlantic region, which covers Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.
Bachelor of Science in Education/ English Education degree program is ranked 19th in the nation among all secondary degree programs.
“We’re pleased, and I think the rankings say a lot about the quality of our English Education program,” Jimmy Guignard, chair of the English and Modern Languages Department, said. “The English and Education Departments work well together to create outstanding teachers, and many of our graduates teach in local schools.”
“This is a great example of our outstanding and dedicated faculty working with our highly motivated students to show how Mansfield has, can and will continue to make a difference in world of education,” MU President Fran Hendricks said.
To reach its findings, NCTQ takes an in-depth look at admissions standards, course requirements, course syllabi, textbooks, capstone projects, student teaching manuals and graduate surveys, among other sources, as blueprints for training teachers. After consulting with international and domestic experts on teacher education, NCTQ then apply specific and measurable standards that identify the teacher preparation programs most likely to get the best outcomes for their students.
NCTQ’s goal is to provide recognition for high caliber teacher training programs so that aspiring teachers can make informed decisions on where to attend school.
