MANSFIELD, PA – Peggy Dettwiler, Director of Choral Activities at Mansfield University, has been invited to lead a concert tour from May 30 through June 9, 2019, to Italy, as a part of Mid-America Productions’ Fifth Annual Great & Grand American Choral Series in Italy. A 60 to 80-voice choir will be formed to sing the Vivaldi Gloria with the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina at the Basilica di Santa Croce. This tour will include seven nights in Florence with additional nights and tours to Verona, Venice, and Lake Garda.
Dr. Dettwiler welcomes singers from the region to join in this wonderful opportunity to perform great music near the birthplace of the composer through this 10-day residency. Acceptance includes an audition with a brief solo and vocalization for range. The university Festival Chorus will perform Vivaldi’s Gloria in the spring semester if participants want an opportunity to learn the work with other singers.
The cost is 2295 euros and includes: two major public performances of Vivaldi’s Gloria with professional orchestra and soloists, nine nights lodging, nine breakfasts, one lunch, bus transportation with escorts, six guided tours, professional accompanists and language coaches, and press coverage. The rate in dollars will be established in November but will be about $2800. The total does not include air fare. Assistance in purchasing flight tickets will be given if requested.
A down payment of $400 is required to secure participation and can be made online through the Mansfield University Alumni Office at: https://ssl.mansfield.edu/cll/italy-tour.cfm
The final deadline is November 1, but earlier registration is appreciated. Subsequent payments will be made in January, March, and April.
