MANSFIELD, Pa. – Mansfield University senior psychology
major Devin MacGeorge (Montrose, Pa.) was honored as the Tioga County Special
Olympics Volunteer of the Year and the MU Grounds Crew received the Catch the
Spirit Award at the Special Olympics’ Awards Luncheon recently.
McGeorge has volunteered with Special Olympics since his
freshman year and arranges volunteers from the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity,
which was also acknowledged at the luncheon. Devin is a certified basketball
coach with Special Olympics and also helps with bocce, bowling, and swimming.
Ryan Herrmann accepted the Catch the Spirit Award at the luncheon on behalf of the Mansfield Grounds Crew. Supervised by Ryan Wood, the Grounds Crew sets up Karl Van Norman Field and Maxson Track in preparation for the annual Special Olympics Track & Field event. It hosts roughly 200 athletes and 500 volunteers and spectators from across the county each year.
Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Tioga County Special Olympics offers cross country skiing, bowling, swimming, basketball, athletics, golf, bocce, long distance walking & running, and softball.
