MU to Host 15th Annual Young Men’s Choral Festival

MANSFIELD, PA—The 15th annual Young Men’s Choral Festival (YMCF), hosted by the Mansfield University student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), will be held on Friday, October 31.

The YMCF concert will be held at 4:30 p.m. in Steadman Theatre. It is free and open to the public.

The YMCF is an annual festival showcasing the male voice and will feature a choir of nearly 150 young men from 20 area school districts.

The concert will also feature “The Grads,” 50 members of the Steven FisherKeystone State Boychoir (KSB) of Philadelphia, directed by Steven Fisher. Fisher is the guest director and clinician for this year’s YMCF.

Fisher founded the KSB in 2001 and has conducted all 200 boys of KSB, from the youngest trainers to the most advanced singer-musicians in the Chamber Choir. KSB sings an enthralling, diverse repertoire of music from around the world, as well as the major works of the choral canon.

The group has sung with several distinguished ensembles, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and Opera Philadelphia, serving as its official boychoir. Internationally, KSB has travelled and performed on all seven continents.

“The Grads” will perform five selections in the concert. The Mansfield University Men’s Chorus , under the direction of Peggy Dettwiler, will also perform a set of pieces and with join together with the YMCF and KSB choruses for a dynamic finale including organ, piano and percussion.

“The Grads” and Fisher will also teach a masterclass during the festival.
