Girl Scouts Earn Badge at MU

MANSFIELD, PA— Girl Scouts from Wellsboro, PA visited Mansfield University on October 28 to participate in a mock crime scene investigation and earn their Detective Badge.Wellsboro Girl Scouts, Mansfield Lambda Alpha Epsilon members and retired FBI Special Agent Mark Thompson (far right).The investigation was led by retired FBI Special Agent Mark Thompson, with assistance from faculty members Justin Crowl and Josh Battin from the Mansfield Criminal Justice Administration Department and members of Lambda Alpha Epsilon (LAE), the University’s professional criminal justice fraternity.

Special Agent Thompson spoke to the Girl Scout Troop about forensics, evidence collection, and crime scene processing. The retired FBI Special Agent Mark Thompson works with Girl Scouts on their investigation.scouts then had the opportunity to collect evidence left by a “suspect,” dust for latent prints and identify the perpetrator of a mock crime.

After the presentation, members of LAE spoke to the group about criminal justice career options and their future career aspirations.

LAE members who volunteered for the event were Mariah Murray, Kimberly Floyd, Rian Waldbrunn, Alysia Snyder, Ariana Emenheiser, Veronica Moore, Ryan De Leo and Tyler Cunningham.
