Sen. Joe Scarnati awarded MU Presidential Coin for Excellence

MANSFIELD, PA— Pennsylvania Senator Joe Scarnati has been MU President Fran Hendricks & Senator Joe Scarnatiawarded the Mansfield University Presidential Coin for Excellence. MU President Fran Hendricks made the presentation after Scarnati spoke at the Mansfield University Veterans Appreciation Luncheon held on Monday, November 10 in North Manser Hall.

“Senator Scarnati is the second recipient of the Presidential Coin for Excellence, but his support of Mansfield is second to none,” MU President Fran Hendricks said. “One of the inscriptions on the coin is ‘Semper Honorus,’ which is Latin for ‘Always with Honor’ and that reflects Senator Scarnati and his service to MU, our region and the Commonwealth.”

Scarnati is currently serving fourth term in the Pennsylvania Senate. He represents the 25th Senatorial District, which includes Cameron, Clinton, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, Potter and Tioga Counties and portions of Clearfield County. As President Pro Tempore of the Senate, Scarnati holds the third-highest constitutional office in the State.

The coin was developed by Hendricks and designed by MU Publications Director Andy Worthington.

The coin bears several symbols representing historical highlights and other aspects of the university that make it distinctive.

Hendricks said the coin will be awarded selectively to persons who have contributed greatly to the university, using the Mansfield Creed; Character, Scholarship, Culture and Service as a guideline.
