MANSFIELD, PA— Twelve Mansfield University students presented at the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC) Fall 2014 Regional Undergraduate Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity Conference held at Keene State College, NH on November 7-8.
Kylie Smith (Horseheads, NY) and Erin Ratliff (Spring Grove, PA) presented their poster “The Effects of Empathy and Social Exclusion on Prosocial Behavior.” Gretchen Sechrist, Psychology, was their faculty mentor.
Ratliff also presented “The Influence of Attachment Style and Perceived Sexual Attraction on Mate Retention Tactics,” which was mentored by Karri Verno, Psychology.
Nathan Harpster’s (Pottstown, PA) presentation was entitled “Geophysical and Geospatial Mapping of Tioga County Pennsylvania Cemeteries.” Lee Stocks, Jr. and Andrew Shears, Geosciences, were mentors.
Harpster also collaborated with Kyle Cuddeback (Reading, PA) on “Short-Term Changes in Water Quality, Corey Creek, Tioga County, Pennsylvania,” mentored by Linda Kennedy, Geosciences.
Jesse Olsen (Galeton, PA) presented “Mapping Carolina Bays for Morphometric Analysis.” Stocks and Shears served as mentors.
The Mansfield University Horn Club, mentored and directed by 
Rebecca Dodson-Webster, Music, performed “Unity and Variety.”
Horn Club members are Dylan Krall (Dundee, NY), Victoria McNamee (York, PA), Rachael Rice (Painted Post, NY), Ben Wagner (Hershey, PA) and Megan Warriner (Greenwood, NY).
In creative writing, Joel W. Miller (Wellsboro, PA) presented “Let Me Tell You What I Want.”
Kelly Raleigh (Hanover, PA) presented “Children of Dionysus” and “Leiber’s Four Stages.” Lilace Guignard, Geosciences and English, was mentor for both students.
The conference showcased the talents and collaborative spirit of students and faculty at COPLAC campuses.
COPLAC promotes awareness of the value of high-quality, public liberal arts education in a student-centered, residential environment. Its membership currently consists of 28 colleges and universities in 26 states and one Canadian province.
Mansfield University is under consideration for COPLAC membership. A decision on MU’s application is expected early next year.
