MANSFIELD, PA— Five Mansfield University students, accompanied by Professor Sue Young, chair of the Department of Communication, traveled to New York City on November 3 to volunteer at the Center for Hearing and Communication’s (CHC) annual “Feast” fundraiser gala.
Nicky DeAngelis (Selinsgrove, PA), Trevor Clark (Emporium, PA), Tyanna Roberts (Bensalem, PA), Laura Young (Wellsboro, PA), Samantha Young (Wellsboro, PA) and Professor Young were joined at the event by MU Professor Emeritus Howard Travis.
The Mansfield contingent worked at the media table, greeting guests and escorting them into the event. Many of the guests are broadcasters based in New York. The event features food from 30 to 40 of the New York City areas finest restaurants.
“Students get to experience a day in Manhattan as well as to analyze event planning at The Feast and be a part of a charity event,” Young said. “Meeting the broadcasters is fun too, and they need to be on the top of their game for social skills.”
The trip is done in one day and Young pays for the students travel expenses herself.
The “Feast” serves as a fundraiser for the CHC, a nonprofit that provides hearing tests and hearing aid services, speech-language therapy, counseling and other services.
