Christine Shegan Approved as Director of MU Police Academy

MANSFIELD, PA— Christine Shegan, director of Police Services andChristine Shegan Safety at Mansfield University, has been approved as director of the Mansfield University Municipal Police Academy by the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission (MPOETC).

“The MU Municipal Police Academy has a proud history of training law enforcement officers that will only be enhanced by Chief Shegan’s leadership and experience,” MU President Fran Hendricks said. “I am very confident that she will bring great direction to the Academy as we move forward.”

“I’m honored to have the confidence of President Hendricks to lead the Academy and thank the Commission for their approval,” Shegan said. “I look forward to serving with and training police officers for the Commonwealth, in particular in the Northern Tier.” 

Shegan has more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement and has served in her current capacity at MU for 18 years. She holds a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

MPOETC, which is located in Harrisburg, was created by Act 1974-120 and charged to establish the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Program. The responsibility of the Commission is to improve standards and goals in police training and to determine the required certification of any municipal police officer to work in the Commonwealth. The Commission delivers the basic police training program (Act 120), the mandatory in-service training (Act 180) and lethal weapons training (Act 235).
