Andrew Deutsch Exhibit at Loomis Gallery

MANSFIELD, PA- “Poly-vectral Extension Two: an exhibit by Andrew Deutsch, is on display at the Loomis Gallery. The exhibit will run through April 17.

Deutsch exhibitDeutsch received his BFA in video art and printmaking from Alfred University in 1990 and his MFA in integrated electronic art from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1994. He has shown at Tampa Museum of Contemporary Art, Florida, 2010; the Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2008; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, 2001; among others. Deutsch he is a professor of Video and Sonic Art at the School of Art and Design at Alfred University.

“Early in the development of my work with electronics, I found myself drawn to an approach to video and sonic art called ‘real time processing,’” Deutsch says of his work. “To work in real time means to work live processing the video image or sound directly, manipulating the electronic signal itself as it moves in time. This way of working is heuristic and physical. In other words, I work with images and sound the same way a sculptor might work wood on a lathe.”

The Mansfield exhibit is works Deutsch collaborated with Ann Hamilton, Sang Nam and Susannah Biondo-Gemmel on.

There will be an opening reception on Thursday, March 26, 4-6 p.m.

Deutsch will also deliver a lecture on “Electrodynamic Drawing and Speaker Art,” 0n Wednesday April 8, 4 p.m. in Alumni Hall, Room 104.        

The exhibit, reception and lecture are free and open to the public.

The Loomis Gallery is located in Allen Hall, 135 Stadium Drive. It is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturdays 1-4 p.m. and by appointment.
