MU and Student James Querry Honored by Community Blood Bank

MANSFIELD, PA— Mansfield University has been named Donor Group(L-R) CBB Mobile Drive Coordinator Lora Cope, James Querry and MU President Fran Hendricks. of the Year and MU senior James Querry as Volunteer of the Year by the Community Blood Bank (CBB) of Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York.

Lora Cope, CBB Mobile Drive coordinator, made the presentation to Querry and MU President Fran Hendricks at the CBB Blood Drive held on campus April 21-22.

“I am envied by my colleagues when I speak of the overwhelming support and commitment CBB receives from Mansfield University,” Cope said. “The Community Blood Bank is grateful to recognize Mansfield University as a true community champion.”

“Service is a major component of our Creed here at Mansfield,” Hendricks said. “Our students, and the staff who support them, deserve the credit for this honor and for their commitment to helping others.”

“We first began working with James when he helped with the blood drives though Greek Life,” she said. “James was always one of the first on the scene and the last to leave. Over the past two years James has lead the organization and support of the CBB Blood Drives.”

“When I started doing this I didn’t think anything of it,” Querry said. “I do this because community service is one of the things I’ve always liked to do.”

“Because of the leadership James has shown, CBB has instituted a best practice with the position of the student donor chair/liaison,” Cope added. “This best practice has been presented at other colleges and universities and has opened doors where we were experiencing challenges in the past.”(L-R) Mu Foundation Board Member Larry Mansfield '83, Mary Beth Kollar, Lora Cope, James Querry, MU President Fran Hendricks.Cope also thanked Associate Director for Student Life Mary Beth Kollar, Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Chris Bridges, the Mansfield Inter-Fraternity and Panhellenic Councils and all the Greek organizations for their support of CBB Blood Drives at MU.
