MANSFIELD, PA— Mansfield University students Sarah Fluck (Bethlehem, PA), Devona Jock (Easton, PA) and Brittney Mink (Columbia Cross Roads, PA) attended the annual Gender Matters Conference at Governors State University in University Park, IL on April 17-18.The trio participated in a roundtable discussion based on their presentation “Red Flags and Book Bags: A Public Awareness Campaign at Mansfield University.”
MU Associate Director of Multicultural and Equity Services Stephanie A. Allen moderated the discussion.
The Red Flag Campaign is a public awareness campaign designed to address dating violence and promote the prevention of dating violence on college campuses. With the assistance of a faculty member and several student workers, the Women’s Center held several events during this academic year to raise awareness on this issue and focus on creating a community where bystanders feel empowered to act when they see the “red flags” of dating violence.
“Our roundtable shared our experiences, challenges and successes in implementing this campaign at Mansfield University and strategized ways to prevent dating violence on college campuses and in our local communities,” Allen said.
The students and Allen thanked Dia Carleton, executive director for Employee and Leadership Services, Alan Zellner, Social Equity officer and the Student Government Association (SGA) for their support.
