MANSFIELD, PA— Indie film maker Brent Green will present his film
Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then on Thursday, March 13, 7 p.m. in Steadman Theatre. The event is free and open to the public.
The project is lo-fi, stop-motion animations with narration and live music featuring a horn section, theremin, cello, harmonium and drums. The musicians will include members of the indie bands Fugazi, Califone and Dark Dark Dark.
It also features live foley sound effects, like in an old-time radio show, to accompany his whimsical, dream-like cinematic tale.
Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then offers a chronicle of enduring love, faith, the need for miracles, and the power of electricity, while recounting the true story of Leonard Wood, a hardware store clerk in Kentucky who built a crazy-quilt house in the 1970s as a healing machine to save his wife from cancer.
Green, a self-taught animated filmmaker from Cressona, PA, built a full-size model of Wood’s house and town in his own backyard, and he shot the film there, combining traditional and stop-motion animation techniques. The result is an ethereal homage to lovers and dreamers everywhere.

The event is funded by student activity fees and the Mansfield University Foundation.
An exhibit of Green’s work is also on display at the Loomis Gallery in Allen Hall through March 21. The Gallery is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
