MANSFIELD, PA— Mansfield University President Fran Hendricks awarded the Presidential Coin for Excellence to alumnus Terry Manning during Alumni Weekend 2015.
On Saturday, June 13, Hendricks presented Manning, a 1963 graduate, with a coin in recognition of his longstanding support of Mansfield.
The effort it took for Manning to earn his Mansfield degree and he impact of the many people who helped him achieve that goal were never lost on him. After graduating, Manning had an outstanding teaching and coaching career in central Pennsylvania, positively influencing the lives of generations of students. All the while, he never lost touch with his alma mater, giving his time and talents in support of Mansfield in any way he could.
After he retired from teaching, Manning and his wife Michele established the Terry and Michele Manning Athletic Scholarship, which provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding senior student-athletes at Mansfield.
The coin was developed by Hendricks and designed by MU Publications Director Andy Worthington. It is awarded selectively to persons who have contributed greatly to the university, using the Mansfield Creed; Character, Scholarship, Culture and Service as a guideline.
The coin bears several symbols representing historical highlights and other aspects of the university that make it distinctive.
