MANSFIELD, PA—Mansfield University and the Greater Mansfield community celebrated a combined Homecoming and Fabulous 1890s Weekend on September 25-26. The theme of the weekend was “All Roads Lead Home,”
The busy weekend schedule was filled with a full slate of activities and events including a parade, concerts, athletic events, a golf tournament and much more.
Nicolette Fitzgibbon was named Homecoming Queen and Isaiah Murray was named Homecoming King. The royal couple was crowned by MU President Fran Hendricks during halftime ceremonies of the Mountaineers football game against Navy on Saturday.
Fitzgibbon is a senior Community Health Education major from Nyack, NY. She represented the Black Student Union in the campus-wide voting.
Murray is a junior Criminal Justice Administration major from Westampton, NJ. He represented the Men of Distinguished Excellence.
Friday night, the MU Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame welcomed four new members during induction ceremonies at Manser Hall.
Chris Cummings ’07, Lou DiFilippantonio ’68, Jess Uhrich Hill ’08 and Willie Watts ’91 were enshrined. The new Hall of Famers were also honored during the Homecoming parade and before the football game.
The culmination of the weekend was the re-enactment of the world’s first night football game at Smythe Park, the same site as the famous game played on September 28, 1892. The re-enactment was followed by a spectacular fireworks display.
