MU Mourns the Passing of Shaker Ramasamy

MANSFIELD, PA— The Mansfield University community is mourning the passing of Shaker Ramasamy, chair of the Department of Chemistry and Physics, who died suddenly on Wednesday, December 2.Dr. Shaker Ramasamy

Ramasamy came to Mansfield as an assistant professor in 1984. He was promoted to associate professor in 1990 and full professor in 1994.

“Dr. Ramasamy was a consummate professional and epitomized what education is all about,” MU President Fran Hendricks said. “Shaker’s expertise and the connection he formed with his students and colleagues was unsurpassed. This is a tremendous loss for our University. We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife, Mani, and their son and daughter.”

Mani Ramasamy is a member of the staff in MU’s Academic and Human Development Department.

Ramasamy held degrees from University of Madras and Oklahoma State University, where he earned his PhD in 1984.   

Shaker Ramasamy working with students and colleagues this past summer.Calling hours will be held Saturday, 1-3 p.m. at Wilston Funeral Home, 130 S. Main Street, Mansfield. Sunday at 11 a.m., a  memorial service will be held in Alumni Hall, Room 307.
