MANSFIELD, PA— Mansfield University will present a Civil War Speakers Series, looking into various aspects of the war and Mansfield’s connection to it, beginning on March 19.
The four presentations will be held Saturdays at 3 p.m. The first three events will be held in the North Hall Traditional Reading Room. All talks are free and open to the public.
March is Women’s History Month and the series will focus largely on the important roles women played in the Civil War.
On March 19, Bonnie Kyofski will present “Women in the Civil War-The Underground Railroad.” Kyofski is one of the region’s leading folklore scholars and story tellers. She is faculty emeritus of education at MU.
Robert Wooley will present “Women’s Roles in the Civil War” on April 2. Wooley is faculty emeritus in Social Work/Anthropology/Sociology at MU and a Civil War lecturer and reenactor.
On April 9, Carol Wooley will present “Ladies Fashions of the Civil War.”
Wooley is a retired teacher, Civil War lecturer and reenactor.
April 16, Ron Remy will give a walking tour of the Mansfield Cemetery and the surrounding area and its connections to the Civil War. Participants in the walk are asked to gather at the north end of the Mansfield Plaza, North Main Street at 3 p.m. Remy is faculty emeritus of education at MU and a Civil War enthusiast.
