MANSFIELD, PA— The Mansfield University Psychology Department and the MU chapter of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, are holding a “Spread the Word to End the Word” event on Wednesday, March 2.
Spread the Word to End the Word is an ongoing effort by Special Olympics, Best Buddies and their supporters to raise peoples’ awareness of the derogatory use of the “R-Word” (retard or retarded) and its negative effects on people with intellectual disabilities, as well as their families and friends.
This campaign is about more than just raising awareness of the R-word; it is also about changing attitudes of segregation and hate, to attitudes of acceptance and respect.
Members of the MU community can pledge to show respect from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in lower Manser Hall.
