MANSFIELD, PA—In a continuing effort to provide access and enhance affordability to students and their families, Mansfield University will freeze room rates for current and future students. The Council of Trustees approved the plan at their meeting on September 21.Students will have their room rate set upon entry into Mansfield beginning in the fall of 2017 and that rate will be the same for as long as they occupy a room in the residence halls. The Council of Trustees sets the room rate in advance of each academic year.
Students currently enrolled at MU and living in the residence halls, or choosing to move into the residence halls by next fall, will have their room rate frozen at the fall 2016 rate.
“The room rate freeze, coupled with the Freeze Individualized Tuition (FIT) initative we implemented this year, will provide cost predictability for students and parents as they plan their finances,” MU President Fran Hendricks said. “We are committed to controlling costs and providing opportunity to our students through innovative initiatives like these.”
Under FIT, a student’s tuition will not increase for eight semesters, excluding summer or winter terms, or until the first degree is conferred, whichever occurs first. FIT will be in place as a pilot program until 2019. At that time it will be evaluated to measure its effectiveness and viability to continue. Graduate courses as well as summer and winter courses are not included in the program.
“We appreciate the support of the Council of Trustees in giving our students and their parents increased stability and predictability in the cost of attendance at Mansfield, as they invest in the future of our students cost assurance,” Hendricks said.
