MANSFIELD, PA— Mansfield University Social Work students are creating “Comfort Kits” for the Blossburg Police Department. The kits will be given to children who have recently been in a traumatic situation that required a police officer to respond.
“The kits will allow officers the opportunity to follow-up with a child to see how they are coping after a police visit to their home,” MU student Jackie Smith said. “The officer will use the kit as a tool to open lines of communication with the child.”
The kits will include a small stuffed toy, coloring book, colored pencils and age appropriate fact sheets explaining why an officer may need to visit a child’s home.
Donations of items that can be used in the kits or monetary donations to acquire items are being accepted.

The students involved in the project are from Assistant Professor Mary Daly’s Community & Organizations class.
