Dennis Miller named Mansfield Citizen of the Year

MANSFIELD, PA— Dennis Miller, director of Public Relations at (L-R) Dennis Miller accepts the 2015 Max Colegrove Citizen of the Year Award from Mary Jane (Colegrove) Taylor and Richard Colegrove.Mansfield University, has been named the 2015 Max Colegrove Citizen of the Year.

The award, named in honor of the longtime Mansfield business and civic leader, is presented annually by the Mansfield Chamber of Commerce. Miller is the 29th recipient.

Selected after a Borough-wide nomination process, Miller received the honor for his longtime involvement with the University, the Borough and Tioga County.

Miller spearheaded the creation of the Fabulous 1890s Weekend, which annually celebrates the world’s first night football game played on September 28, 1892 in Smythe Park. He has served as chair or co-chair of the event since its inception in 1992.

Miller is also past president of the Tioga County Visitors Bureau, served on the Mansfield Sesquicentennial Committee and has been involved in several other community and university projects.

The director of Public Relations at MU since 1980, Miller’s department has won more than 30 national awards for its public relations and marketing efforts.

Also an author, Miller has written three books. The proceeds from their sales go to a scholarship fund at Mansfield.

Miller is a Mansfield graduate, as is his wife Linda and their children, Kimberly and Nathan.

The presentation of the Citizen of the Year award was by two of Colegrove’s children, Richard and Mary Jane, at a dinner at the Mansfield Fire Hall on Tuesday, May 26.

In accepting the honor, Miller said, “I truly am honored and humbled. I knew Max, I worked with him and I respected him a lot. Thank you and thank you Mansfield.”

Miller will also be honored during Mansfield’s Fourth of July Parade and the Fabulous 1980s/Homecoming Weekend in September.
